A Farm Boys Sacrifice

He slowly leaned back in his old tractor seat
After working all day in the hot Texas sun
Pushing back his hat and wiping his brow
For his chores were almost done

Many years he had lived on this family farm
Since the time he had turned six years old
Thoughts of his brother who was then only four
Remembering all the stories they had told

He loved to ride the horses everyday
Even though he was still very young
Just when he was all saddled up to go
His little brother tagged along just for fun

The two brothers were always together
From dawn to setting sun
But his brother had traded life on the farm
To serve his country and carry a gun

He had wanted to protect his country
So he left all he loved behind
Fighting and hunting for terrorist
Was all he had on his mind

Then late one night the telephone rang
Which had awaken him from his bed
A Chaplains voice on the other end
Was informing him his brother was dead

As he now reflected on the past
He knew he must carry on alone
The brother that he loved so much
Would never be coming home

He would always cherish the memories
Of the days they had spent on the farm
The dreams they had once shared together
And the little brother he had protected from harm

Just then he heard his wife in the distance
Saying, "Honey, suppertime is here"
He slowly climbed down from his tractor
While wiping his eyes from tears
