A Teenager's Plea

A Teenager's Plea

A long white corridor stood deathly silent
Minutes slowly passed from night to morn
No one had come to speak with her
Sobbing she was left fearful and forlorn

The night had been one of great excitement
Friends gathering and celebrating the year
Drinking, dancing, laughing, and smoking
Tossing away their inhibitions and fears

They waited for the clock to loudly chime
That two thousand six had finally arrived
And with glasses and bottles of alcohol
The sounds of Happy New Year they cried

All caution and warning had gone unheeded
As each teen had been strictly taught
Drinking and driving did not mix
Punishment would be severe if caught

A fateful tragedy had occured on this night
Her friends now lay in a room down the hall
As careless actions jarred her memory
A mother's screams echoed off the wall

The lights had appeared from the darkness
As the car veered into the truckers lane
Six teenagers out enjoying a night of fun
Alcohol now causing them death and pain

Screaming sirens pierced the star filled sky
As each child was carried from the scene
Cries of agony, pain, and suffering
Were on the lips of every teen

Joy and laughter were no longer heard
As the hands of time seem to stall
Six young innocent teenage life's
Waited on God's voice to call

The painful memory of that fateful night
She will carry in her heart as she cries
Words spoken from someone who cares
Please do not drink and drive
