A Vision Of Death

With a weary sigh he locked the door
He pulled the shades from the sun
The final customer had left the store
His day was almost done

As he paused to reflect upon his day
His thoughts took him back in time
Now sitting in silence behind his desk
His cheek wet from crying

It was a day much like today
That began with a cheery whistle
Until someone was approaching him
He noticed they carried a pistol

He knew what was going to happen
He had seen it all before
Could this all be drug related
Is that why they robbed his store

Then all at once a shot rang out
As time stood very still
Everyone was running
When the kid moved toward the till

Just then a screaming bullet fired
From a nearby policeman's gun
And as the mask was slowly raised
He gasped MY God this is my son

And as the father began to weep
At what his eyes were seeing
Just then he felt the arms of his son
And learned he'd been only dreaming
