Are You There God

Daylight was fading as I quietly watched
As fire flies lit up the summer night
And sighing I rose from my rocking chair
Entering my home and switching on lights

Turning on the news I knew what I'd hear
As the evening anchorman told us each day
About the destruction in the middle east
And a few more years is all we would stay

Changing the channel this time I did hear
About a tiny child that had been slain
And as those in charge searched for clues
Everyone knew the parents were to blame

Suddenly a bulletin interrupted the news
As a riot had formed in a busy street
When homosexual's marched for the right
To wed their partner and not be discreet

What could the people possibly be thinking
I wondered as the channel I did change
Was this world losing all respect for God
And was everyone possibly that deranged

Once more I searched for something to watch
Trying to find something to bring me cheer
And that is when I heard about the teacher
Being arrested for buying her students beer

Wiping away tears as they fell from my eyes
I remembered how Our God had been banned
As prayer wasn't allowed in public schools
And his name was not known in some lands

The old clock upon the wall chimed the hour
And I realized it was now time to go to bed
As the grandchildren all would be up early
Wanting to watch the cartoons and be fed

Slowly as I walked down the long dark hall
I knew this night I would bow on my knees
And ask God to help this world understand
He is The Almighty One and him we do need
