Just The Two Of Us

A chilly breeze filled the morning air
As the elderly couple stopped to rest
And sitting upon the rocky shore
They knew they were truly blessed

Silently watching sailboats in the harbor
That were now empty with no one in sight
As autumn replaced the summer heat
With a crispness to bundle up tight

Another year had passed by so quickly
But this one was held close at heart
For they had only found each other
After being separated and miles apart

The hands of time had stopped that day
When he was called to go and fight
And as they pledged an endless love
She cried as she watched his flight

Each day she waited for a bit of news
From the man she loved so very dear
But months and years went slowly by
And soon no more words did she hear

Life for her held very little meaning
And she never once decided to wed
As the nights she dreamed about him
In her heart he would never be dead

Late one night while listening to the news
A miracle was displayed before her eyes
Of several men being found in a camp
Prisoners of a war that had passed by

The press could not give their names
But she knew in her heart it was him
And as she prayed and jumped for joy
She watched as they played the film

Yes he is the one, she screamed aloud
The man she had loved for fifty years
And as she looked upon his old face
Her eyes were filled with many tears

Weeks later they were finally reunited
And as she happily stood by his side
They knew at last their time had come
For their love was what kept him alive

Each moment they are spending together
As they now can share their love at last
That lived deep within their hearts
And survived the hardships of the past

Another one of my romantic love poems
And this one is from one of my dreams
Oh so very real and vivid it did appear
Could it have happened as it was seen
