Chasin' That Neon Rainbow
He slowly leaned back in the old rocking chair
As the thundering applause echoed in his ears
He had just closed another concert tour
Just like he had done for many years
As he paused to reflect on the night
And the great people and the songs
He thought of his family and friends
Had he been gone that long ?
As his weary eyes slowly closed in sleep
And he began to dream
A little brown eyed boy did appear
And he looked alot like him it seemed
A small toddler of just four years old
Sitting on the bedroom floor
He had a guitar resting in his lap
And his faithful dog next to the door
The guitar was a Christmas present
Given to him by his dad
He knew this was the greatest gift
That he had ever had
He sat for hours learning how to play
As he read music and whistled a song
With a dog that was his companion
Barking and singing along
Too soon he was playing in honky tonks
As he left the safety of his home
His nights were filled with singing
And he became very well known
He never had anyone to truly love him
Or to call his very own
All the years he spent on the road
He always lived alone
As he woke from his troubled sleep
He reflected upon his dream
What had happened to that little boy
The night life was not all it seemed
