Excitement filled a cold December night
As down the chimney he came with ease
A bag of toys and surprises he brought
For the children he wanted to please
Shaking his head he looked for a sign
That someone could possibly be up
But the only evidence he did find
Were decorations and a small pup
A Christmas tree sparkled before him
Causing him to stop and stare
He knew he must quickly get busy
Unpacking and leaving his wares
The pup quietly watched him working
Wondering 'could any of this be mine'
And smelling each and every present
Knowing Santa was running out of time
Would this jolly old man even notice
Cookies and milk left for a treat
Possibly he wouldnt want them
Leaving them instead for him to eat
Surely this man could not be hungry
Not with a fat belly such as that
He looked kind of strange and funny
In his red suit and fuzzy hat
Slowly turning, Santa looked around
And eyed the goodies left for him
More milk and cookies he whispered
How in the world would he get slim
A night so full of joy and excitement
Was quickly coming to a close
And while enjoying his milk and cookies
He was tired and began to doze
A cold and wet nose began to nudge him
Waking him from his restful nap
Oh my, look at the time Santa said
As he took the pup from his lap
With one final glance around the room
Gathering his bag he turned to leave
Knowing he would return again next year
For after all tonight was Christmas Eve
