Will You Remember Me

Shadows of the enemy were in the distance
As the moon cast it's huge yellow glow
And knowing his time on watch was over
He gathered his guns as he turned to go

Each night he stood and guarded the gate
A job that he had done since he arrived
And as the sky came alive with the stars
The soldier remembered her as he cried

Many months ago on this base they had met
As they both were troops from the states
And although it was forbidden by the law
Much time was spent between them on dates

Stolen moments they knew would be over
If they were caught sharing their love
But such an attraction for each other
Must have been sent from our God above

A fairy tale romance found only in books
They knew it could not possibly last
For soon she would return to her family
Leaving him alone to dream of the past

The feeling of love they secretly shared
Came to an end one hot summer day
As her time spent in combat was over
No longer did she have a reason to stay

Each day of his young life he now spends
Remembering the hours they had shared
The love they had promised to each other
And how for an eternity they would care

Now, as he gazes at the brightly starlit sky
He wonders does she remember his name
And somewhere across the deep blue sea
She cries, thinking and asking the same
