God's Amazing Grace

The faint ringing of bells in the distance
As she awakes from her slumbering sleep
Quickly dressing she ran for the bus
For an important meeting to keep

The bus was slow as it rattled and creaked
Maneuvering up the steep winding hill
The rhythm of her heart beat rapidly
Soon to be with her beloved husband Bill

It seemed an eternity till it came into view
The little white church with its cross
Her husband had been appointed the pastor
And was a shepherd for all who were lost

They had met on a hazy hot summer day
While she was homeless and in need of care
Bill was from one of the towns missions
Preaching the words of God to share

Her life had been one of shameful abuse
From a father who had mysteriously died
Leaving her burdened with no where to live
Alone and being stripped of her pride

This stranger had asked her to join him
At a place that was so filled with love
A home that would offer her safety and respect
As they spoke of the good Lord above

Unsure of the future and what it may hold
She decided that she really must go
For she felt the caring of Bill's loving words
And how quickly her admiration did grow

It was our Heavenly Father he did speak of
A compassionate God she had never known
And how He had sacrificed his only Son's life
So we may be saved when He beckons us home

Soon after, her and Bill became married
Sharing their love in a quiet little place
A home overflowing with joy and peace
Provided by God's amazing grace
