Golden Moments

Climbing slowly the stairs to the attic
She reflected on the past few days
And with a sigh that it was now over
Carefully she put the decorations away

Silence filled every room of her home
Where the children ran and played
And she remembered the loving hugs
Of each as they went in separate ways

Friends and family had all been there
Each sharing in excitement and fun
And everyone said it was enjoyable
As they drove away in the fading sun

Holiday celebrations were at an end
As the year finally closed at last
And sitting alone in her old attic
Shadows of evening were now cast

Gathering her thoughts she rose to go
And retreating once more downstairs
To tidy up the now silent kitchen
Putting away china and silverware

Chores and tasks were all complete
And she now lounged before the fire
Relaxing her body in a warming glow
Knowing to bed soon she would retire

Sunshine would greet her in the morning
As once again she would start her day
But this year she had made a resolution
To take the time to kneel and pray

Embers in her old fireplace were dying
Two thousand six was now in the past
With prayers for peace in this world
She closed her eyes to sleep at last
