Happy Father's Day

The warm day was the eighteenth of June
And the year was two thousand and six
As a father and his son were reunited
After nine long years they'd missed

A tiny little hand tightly grasped his dads
As in the sweet flowers they walked
And sharing memories of their past
They both laughed as they quietly talked

The small child had returned on this day
To comfort his father's broken heart
For this little boy had lost his life
Drowning in a pond in a near by park

He knew how much his father missed him
As many nights he would cry out in pain
Longing to hold him just once more
And knowing he was slowly going insane

As the two walked and talked for hours
The little boy gently held his hand
Smiling he tried to reassure his dad
He was a loving father and a great man

They spoke of the day when he was born
And how he loved him with all his heart
Such a blessing from the good Lord above
Never imagining one day they'd be apart

Continuing to talk they spoke of the movies
How they watched even knowing the endings
As they would rewind them all once more
And start them again from the very beginning

The summer days they would run and play
As the sun beckoned them to the pool
And as they splashed in the cool water
They would laugh and act like a fool

Then quietly they spoke of his last day
The boy trying to make him understand
That it was not the fault of anyone
As tightly he clung to his daddy's hand

He then said 'father I love you so much
And I know daddy you adore me too
Take good care of mommy and my sisters
I miss them and please don't be blue'

Then as time seem to stand oh so very still
The heavens parted, his son couldn't stay
Leaving with one final hug and then a kiss
Whispering, I love you Happy Father's Day
