Quickly the months have passed us by
Another year is coming to an end
And as we reflect upon our lives
May we forgive and make amends
This year has been one of frustration
Financial woes and poverty for many
The lack of money to feed families
As some have to scrape for each penny
Vast destruction was evident in the south
Fierce storms ravaged homes and lives
Such pain and loss being felt by all
As the wind echoed people's cries
Sounds of war could be heard from abroad
While fighting for liberty and peace
Men and women engaged in battle
Will this terrorist madness ever cease
New diseases have mysteriously appeared
While scientist have worked day and night
Searching to find an answer or cure
To help quiet the anxiety and fright
This year has been filled with confusion
Searching for the right way to turn
Hoping they have made right choices
To avoid a hard lesson learned
Many lives now living with depression
Feeling lost and forgotten in their home
If only their burdens could be lifted
By those who do not struggle alone
The curtain is closing on two thousand and five
While our future appears anything but clear
But I pray happiness, love, and contentment
