He Stopped Loving Her Today

Whispers could be heard amongst the crowd
As she slowly made her way to his side
Stares of amazement now focused on her
After so many years had passed by

Once deemed as the perfect couple
But over the years her love had grown cold
And in spite of her lies and selfish ways
His love for her remained bold

Many years had passed without hearing a word
Until one day she suddenly appeared
It was then he reaffirmed his love for her
How in his heart he had kept her dear

Now she had come for a final goodbye
And to tell him that she would soon wed
But little did she know the future for him
Would be unkind and striking him dead

She spoke to him of the love she'd found
From a man that he once knew
Now as his mind raced back in time
He was saddened and left feeling blue

For years she had written him letters
Signed with the words I Love You
He had kept her picture close by his bed
Without knowledge she was being untrue

As she now spoke these words so calmly
He said he'd love her till the day he died
She remarked you'll soon forget in time
While he slumped and began to cry

Now his life here on earth has ended
And soon they will carry him away
There now is a wreath placed upon his door
He finally stopped loving her today
