The glowing fireplace welcomed each family
As they entered the warm dining room
And a beautiful table spread before them
With a flower arrangement all in bloom
A home filled with spicy sweet fragrance
As the grandmother busily tried to cook
A feast for her friends and loved ones
With never a need to read a recipe book
Bright festive decorations could be seen
Adorning each of her windows and doors
As she had prepared for so many months
For the gathering of the ones she adores
Turkey and dressing displayed tastefully
In the center of her huge buffet table
Along with vegetables and a baked ham
Were scenes from many fairy tale fables
Desserts of cakes, pies and sweet cookies
Arranged in country style holiday tins
Line the glass shelves in her dining room
Waiting patiently for the big meal to begin
Children and grandkids rushed to and fro
With excitement as they played with toys
Knowing grandma had prepared a big feast
And something that everyone would enjoy
The time had finally arrived to be seated
As before each one fine china was placed
And keeping with the old family tradition
Grandpa was called upon to say the grace
A holiday gathering once more at grandma's
As each person filled up their dinner dish
And one empty chair sits silently vacant
For our oldest grandchild we love and miss
