Indian Summer

Days and months have quickly passed
The weather is not very hot or cold
A time for all the leaves to change
Into beautiful red and awesome gold

Yes, Indian Summer is now presented
As a colorful and magnificent array
And proudly they display these hues
Knowing a short time they will stay

Taking an outing in the countryside
We have only to stop and truly gaze
And we'll see the change of seasons
Knowing soon it will be the holidays

Plans of festivals and celebrations
For the harvest finally now is done
As many have labored countless hours
Working from the dawn to setting sun

Just where did this term come from
A question some of you may well ask
Is it the time of year Indians hunt
As gathering winter food was a task

It's been said that ships would sail
In the Indian ocean that is so wide
For the weather was fair and so cool
Gracefully floating in a morning tide

Could it possibly be the time of year
When braves and maidens would stroll
Enjoying the weather as they did walk
Knowing that soon it would be so cold

No matter where the term did come from
It's gorgeous in such a colorful display
But one thing we need to keep in mind
Winter is coming, and it cannot stay

Look upon God's colors of gold and red
And enjoy this beautiful Indian Summer
Find happiness and love in all you do
Soon the ground will be in cold slumber
