Living The Good Life

Sounds of scratching upon my patio door
Startled me as at my dining table I sat
Thinking of plans for later in the day
And many errands of doing this and that

Wondering who would be up so very early
I opened the glass to see who was there
And before my eyes stood an old feline
With a need for someone to just care

I recognized her from a time in my past
As I had searched for her days and weeks
And now here she was standing before me
Meowing for it was a meal she did seek

My heart was overjoyed to see her again
And I was amazed she had found her way
Back to my home here in the countryside
Where once she was young and would play

Eating and drinking the food before her
She turned and wanted to go out my door
But a look in her eyes said follow me
As she wanted to show me so much more

Slowly she walked toward the old barn
Where the floor was covered with hay
And it was then I heard the soft meows
From her babies who joyfully did play

Four cute fluffy little frisky kittens
Different colors and full of such fun
And oh the old mother cat was so proud
As she purred happily in all she'd done

A baby herself the last I had seen her
She was now home with a litter of four
And never again would she be so hungry
As the morning she scratched at my door
