Looking For Love

It was late one cold and dreary night
As alone I strolled through the park
I stopped suddenly as sounds drew near
Wondering what lurked out in the dark

Then suddenly the bushes did move
Several whimpers could then be heard
I knew in my heart something was there
But could it only be the sound of birds?

Should I go in search of this eerie sound
Or should I continue my merry ole way
I wasn't just sure on what I should do
It would be different in the light of day

As the drops now turned from rain to snow
The sound became agony and pain
Who could be out there on this cold night
And if I found them could they explain?

Slowly a small shadow appeared in the snow
It stood quivering and shaking alone
Then suddenly the image of a puppy
Soaking wet and in need of a home

I quickly placed him inside my coat
Searching for someone near by
Surely this little dog had a family
Someone who missed him and would cry

His shivering body snuggled closer to me
And I knew that I would take him home
A whimpering brown and white ball of fur
One I could never leave there alone

Now just how did this poor little puppy
Come to find me on this very cold night
How did he know that I needed someone
To love me and make me feel right

As I felt him snuggling against me
I walked quickly to get home once more
Then smiled and hugged this blessed bundle
Thank God I had found someone I could adore

He was a cold and homeless wet puppy
Which was sent to me from above
For I had been a sad lonely man
Now we both found someone we could love
