Sounds of barking came from the alley
And the rain slowly continued to fall
As familiar noises of the big city
Echoed from the huge building walls
Alone she sat in her small apartment
Wondering what could she possibly do
She had no friends or close family
And the neighbors she hardly knew
Her bank account had dwindled to zero
And as she scanned the local paper
She searched in hopes of finding work
As no one would grant her any favors
Continuing to sit beside her window
She became aware that it was late
As evening shadows filled the room
Rising she walked to the garden gate
Staring into the dark starless night
She soon realized she wasn't alone
As before her stood a tall stranger
Whispering to her in soft tones
The words he spoke seemed so foolish
Yet she stood there unable to leave
As he gave her answers to questions
That she found very hard to believe
In one hand he held out white powder
As the other was filled with pills
He described the future she wanted
Free from loneliness and pesky bills
'Come go with me', she heard him say
I will let you experience them free
You're life will be so much better
Try it and with me you'll then agree
This was surely the only true answer
She thought as she freely did go
Laughing as they rode in his big car
To some place that she did not know
Her body was found early one morning
Laying face down in a puddle of mud
Signs of drug overdose were evident
As the scene was covered in blood
Yes, drugs were the tall dark stranger
And the victim another innocent life
This time a woman lost and lonesome
With no chance now of ever being a wife
