Please Wait For Me

A glowing full moon shone brightly
As she scribbled a note in the sand
Shots were heard in the distance
In this strange and foreign land

As the war raged on all around her
She sat wiping away the tears
Could it only be just a year ago
She had left everyone she held dear

She hungered to feel her husbands touch
And thought of their passionate nights
Now her arms ached longingly
Once more to hold him tight

A gentle breeze was blowing softly
As she continued to sit in the sand
Once more she pondered in her head
Why was she in this foreign land

Leaving all that was held so dear to her
She came willingly to fight this war
Tears rolled slowly down her cheeks
What were they here fighting for

She wanted only to leave this place
Safely to be home once more
Longing to hear her husband say
It was her he did adore

Did he dream too, of her gentle touch
And for her did he still care
Had he given his heart to someone else
The love that they once shared

The sun was slowly rising in the east
As a new day was about to begin
She now must face the enemy
And erase all dreams about him

With a weary sigh she gripped her weapon
Slowly wiping her tears to the sea
Casting a glance toward the desert sand
She whispered, "Please wait for me"
