Remembering The Good Ol' Days

Waking to a hot and humid summer day
He pulled on pants and grabbed a pole
And whistling for his faithful dog
They headed for the old fishing hole

Walking down the long dusty road
He hummed his most favorite tune
As his only thoughts were fishing
And he had to get there real soon

Against a cypress trunk he leaned
As he baited up his fish hook
His eyes soon became very heavy
And he gave the water a final look

His thoughts were of a better life
And different people and places
Of things that were in his past
And all the many familiar faces

A nudge woke him from his dreams
And he hugged his loving dog
He opened up his picnic basket
Placing his lunch upon the log

He thought of all his future plans
And everything he'd been wishing
But it would just have to wait
For this day he was only fishing
