Romantic Evening
A tap tap tapping upon the front door
Pierced the silence of a dark night
And rising slowly from my easy chair
I reached to turn on the porch light
Who could be out this time of evening
It was much to late to come and call
Land sakes it was two minutes to ten
As I looked at the clock on the wall
Curious as to who stood there tapping
I cautiously called out 'who is there'
And the answer was so very unexpected
It caused me to stop and blankly stare
Come inside I said, as I opened the door
And warm yourself by a glowing flame
Where have you been I've missed you so
Since you've left my life isn't the same
It was then he offered me the flowers
With a bottle of expensive red wine
A beautiful card of sparkling hearts
And 'Valentine Will You Be Mine'
Time stood so still on that late night
As we hugged and lovingly did kiss
But soon he said, it's time to depart
And as he left I knew him I would miss
Chimes from the old clock on the mantle
Were ringing that the hour was now ten
And looking around in great confusion
My heart cried out for what had been
Sitting very quietly in my favorite chair
I realized the night was just a dream
And as the glowing embers slowly died
I knew I was alone or so it did seem
Entering the door to my empty bedroom
That we'd shared as husband and wife
Before me he stood with opened wings
And he carried me to our heavenly life
