Early morning found her questioning
A reason behind another awful fight
What or who had changed her husband
Into a man so full of hateful spite

Once a caring person so full of love
Now had no kind words for her at all
And as her body and mind was on edge
She felt pinned against a great wall

What creature had possessed this man
She wondered as she recalled his eyes
Surely it had to be the devil himself
As she pulled back her hair and cries

Was this a meaning of the word abuse
Even if no outward mark could be seen
And as she silently relived the night
She shuttered to think of him so mean

Many years had passed since they wed
And when repeating their marrige vow
She dreamed they would be very happy
Instead of the hell they shared now

Nothing she said or did pleased him
And he didn't care how she did feel
Although their home was always clean
With food on a table for every meal

Finally all their children were grown
And each one had a life of their own
As the time now should be carefree
For they could spend each day alone

Living day to day without any worry
And just existing without any goals
Was the way he looked at their life
But the stress on her took it's toll

Their problems were always her fault
As he belittled her and made her cry
But the accusations were getting old
Just how much longer should she try

Another early morning with a question
As she wonders should she stay or go
The abuse was becoming so frequently
And the answer to why she didn't know
