So Tired

It's in the wee hours of the morning
And I am in need of a little rest
My small body is so very tired
As napping is what I do best

Late at night I am usually snuggled
In my crib as I soundly sleep
But the last few days I'm restless
And they say I am cutting teeth

What are these people talking about
My small young mind wants to ask
When will this teething be over
And why is it such a painful task

My gums are rubbed with a yucky gel
That causes my mouth to go numb
But it only lasts for a second
And it makes me suck on my thumb

I'm running only a low grade fever
And they know that I am not sick
So they give me a dose of something
In hopes that it will do the trick

They'll place their finger in my mouth
As they rub and look at my gums
I hear them say 'he has none yet'
I wonder where do teeth come from

My little belly hurts and is so upset
They say this is a part of teething
So I pray Lord let this soon be over
And please let me know the reasoning

Now my little eyes are growing heavy
And so tired and in need of a nap
For I'm only a baby of four months old
Being rocked gently on my mother's lap

Quietly she places me in my little crib
Kissing me and pulling up the cover
And as she softly sings me a lullabye
I dream of when teething will be over
