He lay alone upon his little plaid blanket
And sadly watched as people walked by
Hoping maybe they would stop and notice
As he'd hang his head and deeply sigh
Someone to love was all he ever wanted
And he knew it would happen one day
But why did no one ever take him home
Just how much longer would he stay
The pet shelter had taken such good care
To make sure he was clean and well
He even had a neat little blue collar
And attached to it was a tiny bell
Months had passed since he was born
And still in the cage he did remain
He didn't understand their reasons
Was it because he looked so plain
Could it be his two big long funny ears
Or the short length of his soft fur
Didn't they see he was the perfect pet
Who wanted to be hugged so he'd purr
Very late at night when it was so dark
You could hear him as he sadly cried
Hoping tomorrow would be different
As he was now losing his feline pride
Yes, alone in his cage he sat and waited
For someone to come, and hear them say
I want this tiny kitten for my very own
And I'm taking him home with me today
