Sunshine In Denim

The sounds of approaching footsteps
And a familiar MeMaw where are you
Caused my old heart to flutter
As in the door she quickly flew

Her little arms stretched out for hugs
And I held her and squeezed her tight
For MeMaw's little Sunshine had come
And she was going to stay all night

The fun and games that we had planned
Would cause her dear mommy to faint
Planting and watering all my flowers
And giving the fence a coat of paint

Peeking at me with her big brown eyes
And a lil smile that melted my heart
We shooshed her mommy out the door
Wishing she would hurry and depart

At last we were left here all alone
Rushing into the kitchen for a treat
As the big cookie jar she reached for
I pulled us both up a seat

A glass of chocolate milk in one hand
And a big sugar cookie in the other
She giggled and laughed as she ate
Reminding me of her older brother

To soon our treat time came to an end
And away from the table she ran
Wanting to play hide and seek
And catch me MeMaw if you can

Our fun continued throughout the day
And into the late night hours
Stopping only just long enough
To pick her favorite flowers

My time with her had quickly passed
And it was time to say goodbye
As I held and squeezed her tight
She said MeMaw please dont cry

I'll come back to visit another day
Just look out your window for me
A little girl dressed in denim
Longing for her MeMaw to see
