The Autumn Of Our Love
Signs of weakness on her wrinkled face
Evening shadows now filled the room
Knowing her life was slipping away
She would be leaving this world very soon
Whispers and sobs now could be heard
While loved ones spoke in the hall
They knew she soon would be ready
To bid a final farewell to them all
Suffering from the pain her body endured
From the months that had slowly passed
While patiently waiting in Heaven above
She would reunite with her husband at last
Only a breath of life stood between them
Then forever they would walk hand in hand
She envisioned him walking the old country lane
To lead her to God's holy land
They met by chance on an autumn morn
And both knew it was love at first site
As they gazed upon the colorful leaves
They vowed to meet later that night
While days of autumn soon turned to winter
And a marriage was now in their plan
She became the loving wife he had wanted
And he swore to be her faithful man
His love proved true as the greatest gift
With the years wrapped in wondrous bliss
But one day the Lord had called his name
Now forever his presence she missed
Living alone proved a heartache to bear
While she slowly lost her will to live
Once being a woman of beauty and strength
She was now empty with no love to give
Now lying alone in a quiet hospital room
She knew her love was now on his way
Soon they would forever be together
There were no reasons for her now to stay
The light in the room now began to fade
As he appeared walking down the lane
Reaching out he took her in his arms
Closing her eyes, she became free of all pain
