The First Snowfall Of Winter

The First Snowfall Of Winter
Waking to a very cool crispness in the air
She pulled the soft covers over her head
And wondering as to why such a big chill
Slowly she crawled from her nice warm bed
Familiar smells were coming from her den
And greeted her as she entered the hall
As quickly she hurried into the room
To stand before a fireplace in the wall
Logs crackling as they did brightly blaze
Was a much welcomed sound this morning
And now the reason for a chill she knew
A winter storm had come without warning
With coffee in hand she opened the blinds
Gazing upon a sparkling blanket of snow
As the land was now covered all in white
With the ground frozen solid down below
Red cardinals perched upon her old fence
Chirping beautifully as they did sing
Declaring to a country side, it's winter
Taking flight as snow covers their wings
A hint of early morning beams of sunshine
Trying to peek through the cloudy sky
Cast an eerie glow through the mountains
As the pretty white flakes gracefully fly
Turning from the scene that was before her
She warmed herself before the glowing fire
Thanking God for his many rich blessings
And her beautiful home in which to retire
Witnessing the first snowfall of the winter
In the beautiful Tennessee mountain state
She knew that more cold weather was coming
And here she would stay and patiently wait
