The Watchers
The story goes on a hot summers eve
While the full moon shone bright in the sky
Casting a dreadful shadow upon the lake
Followed by shots and a wailing cry
Several years ago this mystery unfolds
The year was two thousand and one
When a couple went for a midnight swim
With expectations of romance and fun
Something terrible unfolded that fatal night
As rumors were spread 'round the town
No one had witnessed or could truthfully say
If the couple had accidentally drowned
When the moon was full and the hour late
Screaming shadows were seen in the night
Uncovering two frightful glaring green eyes
That would prompt you to run for your life
What was it that watched at this darkened hour
And what drove their chilling want
Where could it have possibly come from
And why did their glaring eyes flaunt
People now traveled from far distant lands
For a glimpse of these eerie green eyes
Investigators and those who worked on the case
Had their questions as to who and to why
Some say the shadows belonged to the couple
That had mysteriously disappeared on that night
Now the townsfolk were demanding swift justice
Looking for the murderer who had ended two life's
Many months have passed of uneventful nights
And the eyes of the shadows disappeared
Where had they come from and where did they go
Causing this town to dwell in fear
Could this poem be true facts or just fiction
Read it carefully and make your own choice
When traveling alone on a dark moonlit night
Beware of eyes, shadows, and eerie voice
