We Need To Talk

A glistening sparkle in his eyes
Was that of love for no other
As he leaned closer to his sister
Speaking to her as a big brother

He had grown into a four year old
With many stories he could tell
As she had only started to crawl
He spoke of things he knew well

Facing each other with a knowing look
His brown eyes gazing into her blues
He said now sister listen what I say
I know you don't have any clues

For a few years I was the only child
And I was the center of attention
Now things are beginning to change
And I'm finding myself in detention

Smiling you crawl from room to room
For you are just busy as a bee
I watch you with such amazement
As you search for new things to see

I love you dearly my sweet little sister
But there are things you must learn
Don't touch my toys that are in my room
No matter how much for them you yearn

That ball of fur on the window sill
Is known as the family cat
And when you pull his long tail
He'll hiss and give you a smack

The noisy animal running to and fro
Barking and trying to catch a ball
Is just a little playful dog
That we bought down at the mall

Sister the holidays are coming soon
The house will be filled with many
But watch out for the dear old aunts
For they'll pinch and pat your fanny

The table will be filled with goodies
There will be much food to share
We must be on our best behavior
And show Mommy and Daddy we care

A big fat man dressed in a red suit
Will one night come down our chimney
And if we are in bed sound asleep
Santa will bring us toys a plenty

Your eyes sister are full of amazement
But I would not tell you any lies
I know that I am only four years old
Next year I will be a great big five

I am so glad we had this talk my sister
And I am sure that there will be others
You know I love you forever and always
But why couldn't you be a brother
