What Are Sink Tomatoes

Have you ever heard of a sink tomato
Is a question I was asked one day
And since I had no answer to give
I listened to what this man did say

Another of his many stories he told
Of the time when he was a young boy
And how he would get up real early
As he had no time for little toys

Shaking my head I continued to listen
And he described how it was each morn
As he would eat a country breakfast
An act he had done since he was born

In his grandma's garden grew tomatoes
And every other day he could find
Some half the size of a tennis ball
That she would pick from the vine

They were good and oh so ripe and juicy
And were enjoyed with a handful of salt
As you ate them over the kitchen sink
So a mess on the floor wasn't your fault

Everything did sound so very delicious
And surely this was the thing to do
But where did you get a sink tomato
A question I asked, for I had no clue

He went on to say he looks for them
Now as he shops in a grocery store
And if he finds some like grandma had
He will surely buy one dozen or more

To some this poem may be just plain silly
But to Charlie it is a memory of long ago
And I am so glad he shared this story
As now the answer to his question I know
