Yesterday's Child

Morning rays upon a tear stained face
Revealed another sleepless night
Her thoughts of her three year old child
She longed to see with all her might

Just who could have taken her little boy
And where did they plan to hide him
What was behind their insane scheme
And would the police be able to find them

No fame or fortune did they possess
Fresh tears flowed down upon her face
Just how could this have happened
To have lost him without a trace

So many times she had heard on the news
A child being reported as missing
But not once thinking it would ever be hers
She never gave much thought to listening

It had happened just barely two nights ago
After tucking him safe in his bed
Reading a fairy tale story to him
Hugging and kissing his curly head

That morning as the alarm awakened her
She felt it was very strange indeed
Why was he not standing by her bed
Saying, 'Mommy it's breakfast I need'

Sensing right away that something was wrong
She raced to his room down the hall
Fighting back tears now flooding her eyes
As her baby boy's name she did call

Their time is spent in tormenting hours
While they pray for a call with good news
Will they ever find her precious little boy
And will the search turn up any clues

Tonight as you put your child to bed
Check all windows, doors, and locks
We must guard and protect our children
When evildoers come to knock
