No Justice For The Children

I write this poem as only my opinion
And many of you may not agree
But it's hard for me to understand
How Andrea Yates won her plea

The jury claims she was just insane
And not responsible for her act
But as tears are shed by so many
She drowned her children is a fact

Five little ones did die that day
And their death was by her hand
As she filled the tub with water
Taking their life was her plan

The first trial did find her guilty
To spend her life behind the walls
But the lawyer won her an appeal
And again a jury was to be called

The days were spent within a court
As the news reported of her life
The time she spent in counseling
And trying to cope with her strife

I do not suffer from the depression
That her lawyers proclaim she has
But to say the devil made her do it
Well, I have heard that in the past

No justice for the five little children
Is what happened on that court day
As Andrea Yates got off with murder
Now the little ones no longer play

No justice for the five little children
This does indeed break many hearts
As the little ones lost their life
From the court a murderer departs

No justice for the five little children
Andrea Yates won her insanity plea
Lord, please help me to understand
How a judicial system set her free
