A silence filled that early morning
As the sun rose in an eastern sky
Slight chills were now in the air
And her faithful dog sat close by
It was now the first day of October
And she wondered what was in store
Would her life change as the season
Or would it go on as it had before
Quietly she watched as squirrels ran
Playing in the trees and the big yard
While Rosie her pet, slept peacefully
But secretly she was always on guard
Not a breeze could be felt that morn
As the trees all stood so very still
And as she sat in her rocking chair
The sun began to warm a frosty chill
Leaves gracefully floating from the trees
Reminded her that Autumn was now here
Thanksgiving and Christmas was coming
And should be enjoyed with great cheer
All her beautiful flowers were fading
As the hillside was turning so brown
Gone were the colorful days of summer
Replacing them with a dark gold crown
Absent were the bright butterfly wings
And hummingbirds and the buzzing bees
As branches looked thin and so barren
With few leaves on many of the trees
Rising from her chair she went to attend
A couple of flowers that remained bright
For very soon they to would all be gone
Leaving her garden a dull lifeless sight
Oh yes, a change of seasons once again
A time for the earth to relax and wait
Getting ready for the winter and spring
While she sat and pondered life's fate
